Sport England Award us - £4600

Corbridge Tennis Club in Corbridge, Northumberland has been awarded £4,600 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Flood Relief Fund to replace West End Gable Fencing & Posts, 3 x new tennis nets ,testing all electrics and new temporary club house which were all badly damaged as a result of Storm Desmond.

The recent storms and floods devastated homes, businesses and infrastructure across the country and also had major impact on sports facilities, particularly sports pitches and water sports centres. In December, Sport England launched the £200,000 Flood Relief Fund in a bid to help clean up and repair sports pitches and facilities and get them back up and running.

Corbridge Tennis club will use its £4,600 award to replace the damaged fence and posts, Jennie Price, Chief Executive of Sport England, said: “We appreciate that sport isn’t a major priority when people’s lives, homes and businesses are at risk. But once communities are starting to get their lives back to normal, being able to use their local pitch or sports club as usual can make a real difference.

“By launching this fund quickly to help with clean up and repair costs, I hope we can give people affected by the floods one less thing to worry about.”

“We are delighted to be able to get this emergency funding to Corbridge Tennis Club to help it get back up and running as soon as possible.’

Nick Steenberg from Corbridge Tennis club said: “We are delighted that Sport England has awarded this funding to us which will allow us to repair the Fencing and re-open our Tennis club so that the community can once more benefit from these facilities
